They have been stored in their original box, in their original tissue paper squares since the 1950's (I unwrapped them to photograph them). I am not sure where they were made - they are heavy like Russian ornaments, but were purchased from Czechoslovakia. Of course, Czechoslovakia was under Russian rule for many years, so that might explain it! These ornaments are really wonderful, and don't appear to have ever been used. If you read one of my guides about mercury glass ornaments, it will tell you that storing ornaments in tissue paper is the best way to preserve their beauty; they will stay like new as long as they are stored that way. The box, hand-made and assembled with staples, is also in excellent condition. There is some aging to the box, especially where the lid fit together with the bottom; you can see the age discoloration there, and feel the fragility that the acid in the cardboard has caused in the box over the years. The 12 ornaments are about 3 1/2" long each. They are heavy silver mercury glass covered with mica sugar glitter "snow". They really are one of the nicest sets that I have ever had. This set of 7 all-occasion butterflies-, flowers- and fruit-themed icicle ornaments is elegant and a bit unexpected in that it is loaded with predominantly large Radko beads and a large Radko ornament. Some of the beads are older, and rarer, and all are very, very beautiful. Be sure and check out all the photos to see the exquisite detail of everything in this set. I will not be making another set similar to this one. The icicles measure between 8 1/4" and 10" in length so they are quite substantial in size. The large Radko butterflies measure 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" each. Here is the listing of gorgeous items I used to make this set: 2 beautiful glass flower lampwork beads, 2 triangular white beads made by Radko and hard-to-acquire: they are double-sided - each has a flower on one side and a butterfly on the other (these are the last I have), a large and stunning Radko bunch of roses bead (my only one), 2 Radko hot air balloon beads, 2 large round Radko gold-glittered beads (among my last), a Radko white and gold walnut bead (among my last), a beautiful Radko painted egg (my last one), a large Radko lemon bead - stunning, silver Radko grapes (very rare), large Radko silver rounds, 2 large and elegant butterflies (mentioned above) - one is an ornament and the other is a bead (they are so substantial and weigh more than most other items in the set), a Radko strawberry bead, a Radko polar bear, a Radko gold bear, a Radko banana bead, 2 Waterford diamond-shaped blue and white beads, 2 Bethany Lowe pink indents, 3 vintage glass embedded flower beads, and lovely antiques, including a triple pink bead and 2 gold diamond-shaped beads (rare).
